What better way to enhance and excite the work-life balance of a surgeon than by harnessing her medical expertise to assist in the filming of a movie? Brain on Fire, the immensely successful memoir written by Susannah Cahalan, is currently being made into a film for the big screen! Excitingly, Dr. Macadam has been asked to be one of the two Medical Consultants for the movie, which is currently filming in Vancouver.
The book recounts author Susannah Cahalan's personal story of a "month of madness" - upon waking one day in a hospital room, strapped to the bed, she has no recollection of why or how she got to be there. The story that unfolds is gripping, honest, and very unique.
Dr. Macadam is thrilled to have this once in a lifetime opportunity to be a Medical Consultant for the filming of this movie. In this role, she is responsible for ensuring the medical theory is accurate and that the medical scenes look truly authentic. To prepare the author and actors for shooting the hospital scenes, Dr. Macadam has taken them on a tour of Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) to get familiar with the facilities and equipment, such as EEG machines (as seen in the photo below of Dr. Macadam with Brain on Fire author Cahalan).
If you haven't yet read the book, we would highly recommend it! And stay tuned to see the full length film in theaters in 2016.
